Bathtime

Once upon a time Coraline didn’t like the bath. She would pull herself up straight against the side to get out the moment we lowered her into the water.

One day a few months ago I happened to put her in the bath without any water in it and then ran the water around her. Totally different reaction. She was fine in the bath.

She also doesn’t like the hairdryer and twists in circles to get away from it. One day we were staying in a cottage with a tiny hairdryer. Totally different reaction. She was fine with it.

These changes wouldn’t have occurred to us to try. It was just chance.

So I guess it showed us: things aren’t set in stone, be creative, think differently, think, “how are we approaching things now and what could we do that’s the opposite and see if that changes anything?”

It shows that a nuance can change a reaction. Or that sometimes it’s really unexpected that a way of doing something differently that hadn’t occurred to you to try, changes the story.
