Reflux

One of my favourite times of day with Coraline is early morning after her first feed, sitting together like this. We sit together so I can hold her upright due to her reflux. We do this after each feed in the day but this morning time is my favourite, as the day begins. We have a good chance to look at each other and smile and babble.

Coraline’s lower muscle tone is present internally too so, as I understand it, the ring of muscle joining the oesophagus to the stomach can let the milk up again. Her marvellous paediatrician says that reflux improves with a change in body position and that babies tend to grow out of reflux by the time they are a year old as they are more upright by then. We also pause her a few times during each feed which really helps.
