Monday blogging question:

“What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?”

“If you don’t know, say you don’t know”.

A lawyer I did some voluntary work for in New Orleans said this to me and my friend when we were trying to make up an answer to a tricky question he asked us!

Coraline has a few sensory things we are trying to understand at the moment and it feels liberating to be honest and say “I don’t know” in terms of why, or what the answer is to help her with them. I had been feeling embarrassed when out with friends and she’d be unsettled the whole time, and I’d try and explain that maybe it was the cold, or the pram, and feeling like I needed to know how to help her with this. But I’ve realised it’s good to be honest with friends and just say straight up that this is the situation and, for now, I don’t know the answer. Yes, me, with all my research, I don’t know.

As the thing is, I know I’ll be talking to someone who does know soon enough amongst all the insightful friends and professionals that we see.
