Parent perspective talk

Today I was invited to give a talk to about 16 practitioners from the Early Years and Complex Needs team from across Devon on one of their training days.

My talk was called, “A parent’s perspective” and it was about what we have found helpful and not helpful as parents of a child with additional needs.

I centered it around emotions and how they have the power with their manner and words to shape a parent’s perspective.

It was brilliant to be asked and to do it, and they were so complimentary at the end. They said I had reconnected them to the “why” of what they do and I’d made them feel really positive as they are often a service that is there when others aren’t, or when parents are on long waiting lists for other services. I could tell them just how much that means that they are there. They also said they’d like me to speak at more trainings and that I should do talks to community groups in the future!
