What do you do?
I’ve joined a group of mums to answer a Monday question. Today’s is:
What do you do on a day-to-day basis? Do you work?
Before Coraline was born, I worked at the British Council, the U.K.’s Cultural Relations organisation, for over a decade. I worked on international education programmes: Language Assistants, IAESTE and eTwinning. I loved the fascinating and meaningful work, the ethos of the organisation and working with other countries. It felt like home to me; even the lifts felt like home. The work was about broadening horizons and shifting perspectives. Soft power. I stopped work when Coraline was born in August 2017. But I feel what I learned there is all around me when I write this Blog. The notion of shifting perspectives and the softness of it.
Now I see my life angled in a new direction which has opened wide through Coraline. My love of writing is coming to the fore and I am focused on my goals of writing guest posts, writing a column, writing a book and hosting a podcast. I am working with some great coaches towards these goals. My purpose being to inspire new parents of children with Down’s syndrome, and also a general message of love. My day-to-day is being a mum to Coraline and taking her to activities and being there to do that and play with her.
And, wait for it! In February 2020 Kevin and I launched our own handmade organic soap business inspired by Coraline. Kevin is the superb, amazing, talented force behind this. I am so proud of him and so excited as it unfolds. Check it out on Coraleen Organic Skincare
