She's beautiful

“She’s beautiful”.

In a café, in the supermarket or on the bus, people sometimes come up and simply say this to us.

This weekend at the pub in Leeds with a group of us having lunch it was like this:

A man walked past our table, gestured to Coraline and smiled: “She’s beautiful”

Woman behind him came up to our table: “My friend said be discreet, and have a look at that girl loving her food and covered in ketchup* as we go past”. I love that she told us this. The woman then said, “She’s beautiful”.

(*it was in fact a purple carrot she was eating of all things. I didn’t even know purple carrots existed).

I hadn’t even realised they’d noticed us.

This weekend I realised how strongly all these collective incidences of smiles and comments all add together, to form a beautiful whole around us. A glow.
