Acceptance
The values which underpin this blog are: Love, Health, Acceptance, Kindness, Appreciation, Gratitude, Joy, Trust in Life, Openness, Authenticity.
I have written posts about some of these values before.
Yesterday I wrote about two of them, Joy and Appreciation.
That post was about the fact that appreciating exactly where, and who, you are leads to joy. At the heart of that is self-acceptance. So that’s why Acceptance features as a big value in our blog, because it leads to such riches in your experience of life (obviously if there’s something you want to change, and you can, then you get out and change it!).
When you totally and fully accept yourself, just as you are, and when you choose to be present with your experience and love what’s in front of you, well the world blossoms and blooms all around you.
Coraline has taught me acceptance.
Kevin has taught me that acceptance also includes your emotions. Whenever I have a flat day, or a tired day, as I do here and there, as anyone does, Kevin says, “accept it, just accept the feelings, allow them, let them be”. That’s so wonderful and liberating if you’ve begun to entertain “shoulds”; should be feeling this, should be feeling that. Accept how you feel and it will pass, and by accepting it you free up an energy for it to pass, and it really does.
For Coraline we want her to know that any emotion is acceptable. If she feels mad, or angry or frustrated we will let her feel those things as any emotion is O.K. We will let her know we can see she’s feeling that way, and that it’s natural for her to feel that way in response to something.
For #downssyndromeawarenessmonth here's a line from Kevin from a Blog post a year ago, “What is important is really raising awareness and acceptance of all people, and of raising awareness and celebration of all the varied communities which exist outside of most peoples’ view.”
